Eugene Debs, (November 5, 1855 – October 20, 1926) an illustrious man with a bright colorful history and a man who Horace Traubel was honored to have as a close personal friend. Debs was a founding member of the railroad union; served time in prison for denouncing World War I; and ran several times for President of the United States as a candidate on the Socialist Party of America ticket (even ran one campaign from prison!).
